My Favorite Games of 2011
Hey guys, let’s make a deal. The headline is “MY Favorite Games of 2011.” So please do not tell me that x is missing or that I should really check out y because we’re not here to validate your opinions on things. That is the unbridled joy of no longer being a game journalist and putting together these lists. I don’t have to pretend to care about things I do not care...

Favorite Songs of 2011
Pop trash, shoegaze, thug rap, joke rap, fish fillets and basic bitches. 2011 was a weird year for my musical tastes and instead of breaking it down on a per album basis, I’m listing the songs that stuck with me throughout the year. Spoilers: There are two Arcade Fire songs on here because I am hopelessly white and can’t help it. Also, these are in no order but if I was forced a...

Sunshine, Lollipops and eSports
On Twitter the other day, Ultradavid said of me, “Jared isn’t even shy about having an agenda and wanting to stir things up.” That’s actually very astute as I’ve said all along throughout the great (?) fighting games as eSports debate that the only thing I’ve wanted was to have this debate out in public, in the open. All I wanted was to have key figureheads...

Skinned Knees
There’s an article on Shoryuken about an incident that occurred during Dreamhack — and I use the word “incident” in the loosest of terms — in which an extremely vocal group of viewers decried having to watch the Street Fighter IV grand finals between sets of StarCraft 2. By viewers, I mean people in the chat room because at the event itself the audience seemed...

Today is my last day as community manager of ngmoco.
Tomorrow I board a flight to Orange County for a brief vacation at Disneyland with my girlfriend. When I return on Wednesday, October 26, my new adventure begins. You’ll find out what I’m up to before too long, but right now I’d like to live in my own world for a bit.
My decision to leave ngmoco was an incredibly difficult...

“[…] it’s not going to change until certain factions of the gaming community GET OVER their knee-jerk aversion to feminism, and women’s issues in general, being part of the 21ist century gaming conversation. It’s high time for the gamer culture in general, and the entrenched male side of gamer culture in particular, to accept that this is an issue and join the voices asking the...

Thank You, Steve
As an unparalleled visionary, he altered the very course of technological evolution and thus, the world. Without him, myself along with many, many others would not have a job right this moment and I am incredibly thankful for that. Thank you, Steve.

I didn’t play Minecraft for two weeks.
I play on a server created by my girlfriend, Shelby, which we share with her coworkers at a social games studio. We recently had to move it as the paid server she was using began to run out of memory and no one felt compelled to help chip in for an upgrade. Fortunately, someone stepped in and decided to create a server on their own space. That way, no...

Frame Trap Department of Corrections
In the September 20 episode of Frame Trap, both Haunts and I incorrectly identified the game in which Cole, the exclusive character for the PlayStation Vita version of Capcom’s Street Fighter x Tekken, originated from.
On the show, we claimed that Cole was from the video game Prototype. That was incorrect and we apologize for this error. Cole in fact originates from Too Human, the hit...
